萨瑟兰的角色名叫Martin Bohm，是一名单身父亲，他的儿子Jake自打出生就被判定为自闭症，从未开口说过一句话。而取而代之的，Jake拥有着一种罕见的能力，可以从完全随机的事件中发现其中的关联，并通过数字以及图形表达出来，而从预告片中我们不难看出，Jake的能力可以让他可以在一些事件发生之前就已经知道结果，换句话说，如果他愿意，他可以预测未来。而Martin的任务，则是要读懂儿子的表达，从而解救陷入危机的人们。
